Archimedes' Buoyant Force

An object that is partially or wholly immersed in a liquid seems to weigh less than it does in air. From this we conclude that fluids exert a buoyant force. This buoyant force causes wood to float on water and helium-filled balloons to rise in air.

           Archimedes' Buoyant Force:

                           Buoyant force = Weight of fluid displaced
