개요

Many researchers have tried to improve the ductility of intermetallic compound since the discovery of the drastic effect of boron on the ductility of Ni3Al. The ductility of intermetallic compound could also be improved by macrostructure or microstructure control through optimization of chemical compositions, heat treatments, or processing. Many such ductilization methods often sacrifice the high temperature strength of the material. Studies have revealed that the creep strengths of monolithic intermetallic compound are inferior to advanced single-crystal, nickel-base alloys. There are several possible ways by which the high temperature strength of intermetallic compound may be improved: elimination of grain boundaries, solid solution strengthening, precipitation strengthening, and composite strengthening. This work is aimed at revealing the behavior of dislocations in intermetallic compound containing various types of precipitates by using transmission electron microscope investigations of the deformation induced dislocations.
